The future of medicine lies in the synergy between scientific research, biotechnology, and technological innovation. This is the direction taken by the project presented by Technoscience – Parco Scientifico e Tecnologico Pontino in collaboration with Stem Gem during the Innovation Day Lazio Life Science, an event promoted by Lazio Innova and Unindustria and held at the INAIL Auditorium in Rome.
The initiative brought together the key players in the regional Life Sciences ecosystem – companies, startups, research centres, and investors – confirming Lazio’s role as a strategic hub within the Italian and European biotech landscape.

A pioneering project in glioblastoma therapy

During the event, Technoscience and Stem Gem presented an innovative oncology project focused on the development of an advanced therapy for the treatment of glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive and difficult-to-treat forms of brain cancer.
The project builds on the significant findings of the study “Local delivery of hrBMP4 as an anticancer therapy in patients with recurrent glioblastoma: a first-in-human phase 1 dose escalation trial”, published in Molecular Cancer (Vol. 22, 129), which demonstrated that the local delivery of recombinant human BMP4 (hrBMP4) can modulate tumour cell proliferation, reducing their self-renewal capacity and promoting a differentiating effect on cancer stem cells.

Biotechnology and Translational Research: From the Laboratory to the Patient

The goal of the collaboration between Technoscience and Stem Gem is to translate basic research findings into concrete clinical applications, integrating expertise in biotechnology, regenerative medicine, and biomaterials engineering.
The project involves the development of a localized and controlled hrBMP4 delivery system designed to maximise therapeutic efficacy while minimizing side effects, laying the foundations for a new generation of personalised treatments for recurrent brain tumors.

Technoscience’s Role in the Innovation Ecosystem

As a Science and Technology Park, Technoscience supports the growth of companies and startups operating in the biotech, IoT, and artificial intelligence sectors, providing scientific, infrastructural, and financial support for the development of high-impact projects.
Participation in the Innovation Day Lazio Life Science represents a further step in strengthening the park’s role as a biotechnology innovation hub in the Lazio region, capable of connecting research, industry, and institutions.

Looking Ahead: Research and Impact on the Local Community

The project with Stem Gem is not only a step forward in the fight against glioblastoma, but also a concrete example of how public-private collaboration can generate innovation that benefits both people and the region.
Technoscience remains committed to promoting a culture of scientific innovation capable of attracting talent, supporting translational research, and contributing to the development of biotechnology solutions that improve quality of life.

To rapidly assess a project in biotech and translational medicine - from oncology and neuroscience to precision cardiology and telemedicine - we ask for: a clear clinical or industrial question, the available evidence (including negative findings), access to data and samples where applicable, a draft protocol (including ethical aspects), and hypotheses on biomarkers and endpoints. In return, we offer technical and scientific due diligence, the design of a credible TRL pathway and, where appropriate, support with regulatory strategy, validation and scalability.

Biotech FAQ

The questions you ask us most often

It is an approach that defines the the actual biology of the disease (tissues, markers and omics profiles where indicated) and links it to diagnostic and therapeutic decisions diagnostic and therapeutic personalised. It does not stop at generic classifications or guidelines applied wholesale: it builds a individual pathway measurable through robust clinical endpoints.

An enabling role. The biobanks ensure traceable and comparable samples; the omics broaden the understanding of the underlying mechanisms (inflammatory, metabolic and genetic). When integrated with rigorous protocols and real-world data, make reproducible the evidence and accelerate translation towards clinical trials or clinical adoption.

How we turn ideas into projects

From initial assessment to validation: a collaborative method that turns knowledge, technologies and business needs into concrete initiatives.

01

Discovery and assessment

We start from the need, the scientific result or the available technology. We assess objectives, maturity, data, constraints and opportunities to define an initial realistic pathway.

02

Expertise and project design

We connect scientific and industrial partners and define activities, milestones, responsibilities and funding sources aligned with the expected outcome.

03

Validation and impact

We support experimentation, technology transfer and valorisation, measuring results and preparing the solution for its next step: adoption, partnership or market.
